VISUAL IDENTITY + BRAND EXPERIENCE DESIGN

PALMA PILATES studio

Palma Pilates is a brand new Pilates studio located in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn.

Challenge:
Create a visual identity for a new Pilates studio that is so engaging it opens profitable…in a neighborhood where most people don’t know what Pilates is.

Insight:
The neighborhood Ocean Hill is not a beach-side neighborhood. But considering the large Caribbean population and the owner’s love for the Italian Riviera, something beachy seemed appropriate.

Enter the palm tree. Not only is it a recognizable symbol for beaches everywhere, it’s also amazingly resilient. When hurricanes blow through town, these trees sway in the wind instead of breaking.

Similarly, Pilates builds strength and resilience in both body and mind so you can weather life’s storms without breaking.

Solution:
The client wanted the brand to feel upscale, so I took inspiration from beach-side resorts in Miami, Los Angeles, and Italy to achieve the feminine-retro aesthetic. Due to the nature of the business, it was important the mark not feel static. We included a bit of movement in the letter “M”, as well as in the palm tree that appears to be unfurling its branches.
